It doesn’t really come into play in very detectable ways, but whenever I think about the Church or the Church Soldiers, my mind immediately goes to The Elenium and The Tamuli, a pair of trilogies by the late, great David Eddings. (His wife Leigh too, although she was uncredited for those, I believe.) Both are about…well, Church Soldiers, the militant orders of a religion in a fantasy setting. These series aren’t quite as well known as The Belgariad or The Malloreon — but they’re every bit as good.
