Most of the time, I feel weird whenever I steer the comic back toward its emotional core. I can rarely tell if I’m achieving what I was going for when I wrote it. Is it poignant? I think so, but if the audience doesn’t feel it, I’ve failed. How do I know if the audience feels it? Every once in a while, we’ll get comments that lead me to think we were successful, but the absence of comments doesn’t necessarily mean we failed…this is usually when I’m on the shakiest ground as a writer.
